March is on the move! This month in particular has lots of opportunities for parents to learn more about their child’s progress in school and discover what to expect in next year’s grade level.
“Bulldogs Unleashed” is our theme for our March 10th Kellogg Jog-A-Thon. Help us reach our goal of $30,000. It’s not too late to be a corporate donor or see if your work will match a donation. Jog-A-Thon envelopes went home in last week’s Friday Folder and need to be returned by March 20th to be considered for Jog-A-Thon awards at the March 24th assembly. Mrs. Switzer challenged each student to raise $75 so we can reach our schoolwide goal and make me dress up as a sumo wrestler!
Grade 3 through 6 students will be taking the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) or Smarter Balance Assessment Consortium (SBAC) beginning mid-April. Please see the attached testing dates for each of the grade levels. Parents should avoid scheduling any medical appointments or trips during this time. Grades 3 through 6 will have assessments administered in the classroom on ChromeBooks. All test results will be mailed to the school and parents later in the summer, with the exception of the 5th grade science test, which is a pilot test and no test scores will be shared with districts or parents.
Parents have the opportunity to meet with teachers during March 14-17 to discuss their child’s progress during Parent-Teacher Conferences. Students will be dismissed at 1:10 on these four days to provide time for teachers to meet with parents. Parents can always request to meet with a teacher even if the teacher does not notify you. Teachers will be sending home opportunities to sign up for conferences in your child’s Friday Folder. Sixth grade parents will be providing after school movie days on all four days as they continue to raise funds for camp scholarships and end of the year activities. Watch your child’s Friday Folder for more information.
The District’s @AfterSchool Program will be opening up new registrations for the 2017-18 school year on the district website on March 14th. Returning families will have the opportunity to reserve a spot by registering on March 7th. Parents can visit the district website, www. Goleta.k12. ca.us, and clicking on the “Parent” tab for more information. Heather Cash at email@example.com is our GUSD after-school coordinator.
Congratulations to sixth graders William Shen and Keaton Cross who represented Kellogg School in the February 22nd county-wide Spelling Bee! Congratulations to all 18 finalists who participated in our Kellogg Written Spelling Bee on February 14th with the help of several retired teachers who volunteered to proctor the competition.
Kindergarten registration is in progress. If you have an incoming kindergartener or know of someone living in our Kellogg attendance area that does, please encourage him/her to come and pick up a registration packet from the office. Kindergarten screening appointments are selected upon the return of registration materials.
As always, feel free to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
