Happy October, Kellogg Families!
With just over a month of school under our belt, we hope this finds your family getting into the swing of the new school year. One of the great things about our school is all the opportunities you are given to connect with our Kellogg community outside the classroom, and October is filled with several fun events.
It was great to see so many returning and new families at our Back to School Picnic and Book Fair. Thank you to Erin Cross for her leadership and enthusiasm in planning another exceptional Back to School Picnic. Thank you also to Kendra Wise, Susan Keane, and new Bulldog parents Rhonda DuPar and Karie Ide for their organization and hard work on the Book Fair.
National Walk/Bike to School Day is October 7 and will be the official kick-off for B.O.W. W.O.W. (Bike/Bus On Wednesdays, Walk on Wednesdays). Leave your car at home and bike, bus, or walk to school.
Get ready to dig at our upcoming Garden Work Day on October 10. Thank you to Kristin Rogers for organizing it.
Family Science Night on October 15 is an event you will not want to miss. The classrooms and MPR will have memorable hands-on activities, experiments, and presentations for the whole family. Don’t forget to grab a yummy treat from our 6th graders’ bake sale during the evening.
Our Yearbook photographer EMI Photography will be offering family portraits on October 24. Get a head start on your holiday photos while supporting our school.
Support a local business and our school by shopping at Chaucer’s Bookstore on October 18 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. A portion of all sales, including gift certificates will benefit Kellogg. Thanks to Angelena Plowman for organizing this event.
We would like to remind you that these events couldn’t happen without your support. It is not too late to join the PTA for the 2015-2016 school year. A portion of your annual membership dues of $10.00 per person remains at our school to cover our basic operating expenses and support our special programs. The remainder goes to State and National PTA to support programs and legislation affecting all children across our nation. Becoming a member of the PTA does not require you to attend meetings or join committees, it does however, allow your vote to be counted on how your fundraising dollars are used toward programs. The classes (one each from grades K through 3rd and 4th through 6th) with the highest membership will win a principal’s recess, so be sure to turn in those envelopes!
Kellogg’s fabulous fall events would not happen without the effort and time from our many volunteers: Sarah Randall for spearheading our successful ongoing AXXESS book sales; Yvette Ensign for heading our 6th grade fundraising efforts; Sonja Beahan and Carolyn Zaccone for their creative signs, bulletin board, and marquee updates of upcoming events; Christine Blaney for working to bring so many exciting afterschool classes and Enrichment Programs for our Kellogg kids; new Kellogg parent Julie Swensen for her role in coordinating the PTA Reflections Program; Aimee Buell for taking over Box Tops for Education; new Kellogg parent Alexandra Richardson for formatting our newsletters; Diana Garza for her valuable Spanish translation services.
We have been so impressed by the many parents new to Kellogg that have stepped up and volunteered to help with our programs. Thank you!
As always, if you ever have any questions about the PTA, volunteer opportunities, or ideas for new events/programs, please feel free to contact either of us.
