It is difficult to believe that December is already here! The excitement of perhaps cooler weather, disappearing daylight, and expectations of what’s yet to come can make for an exciting few weeks left in 2018. This newsletter is a combined December/January newsletter. Please watch your Friday Folder for upcoming events in January. I was happy to hear from staff that November Parent-Teacher conferences went well and included collaborative conversations around student progress. Parents that
I spoke with afterwards also appeared to enjoy participating in the conferences and reported them to be informative.
Special thanks to the many parents who contributed to our cultural and traditional feasts around campus leading up to our Thanksgiving holiday. Staff and students enjoyed celebrating yet another way of being thankful for our good fortune. Thank you also to Kara Rocque and Rachael Amundsen and the parent volunteers and sixth grade students who helped organize and provide support for our after school movies during Parent-Teacher Conferences.
Our student council members have been visiting classrooms reminding students of our two campaigns supporting families in our community. The Community of Friends food and gift card drive benefits our Kellogg families as well as those within Goleta Union School District. Grade levels have been assigned particular food items (muffin mix, cocoa mix, etc.) to be placed in classroom baskets. Parents can also visit the office and retrieve a gift card request ($30 minimum) that will accompany a basket full of food. All donations for Community of Friends are due Thursday, December 13. Families are welcome to help organize the donations on Saturday, December 15 from 8:00-11:00 at Hollister School’s multipurpose room.
Scarf Sales! Kellogg sixth graders had their first scarf sale last Friday at the Holiday Boutique. All proceeds benefit students’ individual camp accounts. Homemade scarves and products will continue to be sold on upcoming Fridays after school while supplies last. This is a great way to help our students attend AstroCamp next April and keep warm at the same time. Come check it out! Thank you to the families and community members who supported last week’s Fifth Grade Holiday Boutique and helped raise funds for our upcoming Catalina Island Camp in February.
Mrs. Zwehl’s fourth graders and Miss Smith’s second graders will be hosting Kellogg’s first Music Recital performance this year on Friday, December 21st. Please remember that our student performers perform in both recitals. Upper grade classes will attend the 8:20 performance and primary classes will attend the 10:25 performance. We are looking forward to enjoyable performances by the host classrooms as well as the performers.
As we welcome 2019, please know that I am available to answer any questions you may have as we continue to help each student grow both intellectually and emotionally. I wish you the very best during the upcoming holiday break and look forward to continuing our work together in the new year. I appreciate all that you do to provide optimal learning opportunities for all of our Kellogg students and the support you provide to our staff. Thank you for continuing to make Kellogg a great place for our children to learn! Wishing you a happy holidays and a peaceful start to 2019!
