Our 2017-2018 school year is off to a terrific start with our growing community! I have enjoyed walking through class- rooms these past two weeks and seeing how students have quickly adapted to their new settings. We welcome our new staff members, new to Kellogg, but not new to education. We are so fortunate to have the experience that we do on our site! We will begin our specialists the week of September 11th and look forward to having our entire staff on campus throughout the week.
Across Goleta Union School District, our TK-grade 2 classrooms are now 2:1 iPads to join our grade 3-6 1:1 chromebook. Over the summer, our PTA helped purchase 2 new 3-D printers for our computer labs as well as a set of 4 Osmos for each of our kinder classrooms and 10 new spheros for our lab. We started the year with our new Recess Before Lunch (RBL) routines and are working across the campus to ensure import- ant routines are introduced to each class for the first 12 days of school. Additionally, each TK-6th grade classroom will be implementing the Second Step Social-Emotional Curriculum.
Watch our upcoming newsletters for information about our new specialists and teachers: Congratulations to our following new staff members: Robbie Clopine, 6th grade teacher; Etta Murray, 6th grade teacher; Dan Spencer, upper grade autism specialist; Sylvia Sifuentes, community liaison (onsite Monday afternoons and Tuesdays); Joyce Rara (school nurse onsite all day Thursdays); Paula Kircho , music; Eric Reeder, science; Jordan Roberts and Sara Sessler, PE; Nastacia Perales, art.
Last week I conducted our beginning of the year Rules and Upper Grade Harassment Assemblies across grade levels and will soon begin different grade level safety presentations within the week. Thank you to parents who have been careful driving into our parking lot and surrounding neighborhoods during pick up and drop off. These procedures can be frustrating when doing this for the first time and everyone needs to slow down and be patient as we all become accustomed to parking lot patterns and dismissal times. Thank you for helping to keep all of our students safe!
Our district @AfterSchool Program this year is full with a waiting list. Participating students are either reporting to the kindergarten yard or room 5 after school and working with Mrs. Cynthia and Miss Krause. Our Enrichment PTA Coordinator is open. Thank you to Christine Blaney who offered to step in and provide our fall class offerings. All registration is handled directly with the outside vendor since individual flyers are not allowed to go home in Friday Folders.
I look forward to seeing everyone at our September 14th, Back To School Night. You will have an opportunity to visit your child(ren)’s classrooms and be introduced to our Kellogg staff members following our PTA Association in the multipurpose room. Check out your child’s Friday Folder for more information. This evening is for parents only. We will have Dos Pueblos students providing Spanish translations for our classroom presentations. Make sure to attend the PTA Association meeting and hear how your support through membership and our fundraising campaign can benefit each one of our Kellogg students. Your $10 PTA membership doesn’t come with strings. A portion of the membership stays at Kellogg. We are looking for 100% participation this year. A class competition is in progress.
Later in September you will be able to purchase your Axxess book from Kellogg this year. Every $40 book sale offers a $10 return to your child’s sixth grade camp account fund. One book per child will be sent home mid September. If you do not wish to purchase an Axxess book, please return it to your child’s classroom.
Finally on September 7th, 3rd through 6th grade students will have the opportunity to hear about our Kellogg Band Program. Our band director, Ms. Nancy Mathison, along with the other sectional leaders will be coming to meet students and explain our band program for the year. Scholarships are available. Students and parents are invited to attend the September 12th Band information night at 5:30PM. Please notify Mrs. Bruzzese if you are unable to attend the meeting and are interested in more information.
Parents are encouraged to sign up online for the September 10th Goleta Education Foundation Lemon Run at Goleta Beach. This is a great event that benefits all of our Goleta Schools!
I look forward to seeing you around campus and working with you to provide our children with a year filled with academic success, achievement, and opportunity. If you have any further questions, they may be directed to email@example.com or 805-681-1277.
Kim Bruzzese, Kellogg Principal
