Dear Kellogg Families,
At last month’s Back To School Night, teachers explained class procedures and routines that are in place to help our students transition into California’s new state standards. During our first school site council meeting, representatives also requested more parent opportunities to access information about these standards and how they can assist children at home and promote success. We are working with the district to coordinate parent education evenings throughout the year. I encourage families to visit http://www.cgcs.org/Domain/36 to review a parent resource that is both English/Spanish and provides an overview of the new standards and suggestions to support children in different ways at home.
October promises to be busy with school functions and evening events. School pictures will be taking place on October 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Your child’s teacher will be sending home times and dates. Be sure not to miss our Welcome Back Picnic Wednesday, October 1st. The Kellogg Book Fair will be held in the library this fall. We encourage families to also participate in the October 8th “B.O.W. W.O.W.” (Bike on Wednesday, Walk on Wednesday) to school day. Consider enjoying a healthy breakfast at school afterwards! Families participating in this event can choose to meet at key locations around the neighborhood. More information to follow.
Kellogg School will be participating in California’s Great Shake Out on October 16th. Please review the article that informs parents what they should do in the case of a natural disaster during the school day. Also this month families are invited to participate in our Family Science Night later that evening. Students and parents can experience a great evening of science-based activities and learning. Please mark your calendars! A bake sale will be provided by 6th grade fundraising.
Remember ParentSquare is now accessible through a phone number with texting abilities. Please consider joining this convenient network as a means of staying informed of upcoming events and opportunities. We continue to work to increase the number of families accessing ParentSquare and saving paper costs. We are continuing to post our Parent Handbook online rather than passing out hardcopies to each family. Attached is a form that needs to be returned to the office stating that you have reviewed this document either on ParentSquare or on our Kellogg website. Hard copies will still be available in the office if necessary.
I look forward to working with you to provide our children with a year filled with academic success, achievement, and opportunity. Please consider contributing your time and efforts this year to support all of our learners at Kellogg. The PTA is working hard to provide opportunities for parents to become involved and knowledgeable about ways in which we as a community can join to enhance learning. Make sure you are part of making a difference within our Kellogg community.
